Who we are

The Booth Center is an accomodation facility designed for indpendent men aged 18 and over who wish to regain a dignified life, foster social connections, and thrive in their careers. 

Our building

This building, constructed in 1958 with three floors, has been renovated and modernized to better meet the needs of our clients.

Our team

Technical Services
Ensures the maintenance, repairs and cleanliness of all spaces and systems of our building.
Safety
The safety of our residents and our staff is a prioirity for the Centre. Our team ensures to prevent and manage incident risks.
Cleanliness and Hygiene
The premises and surroundings of the building are regularly maintained by a team of bemployee and volunteer residents. 

Kitchen Team

We have a talented team of people ensuring residents are fed nutritious meals.  Our kitchen team is a blend of employees, volunteers, and individuals from community works. Together, they combine their effortss to deliver exceptional catering service, with courtesy and dedication.

Mission

Our mission revolves around four main goals:

  • Provide three meals and a snack every day for all our residents.
  • Promote healthy eating habits by offering balanced and quality meals, in line with the standards of the Canadian Food Guide.
  • Minimize food wastage.
  • Establish partnerships for consistent and occasional food donations.

Environment

We ensure our cafeteria is a welcoming space where residents can enjoy their meals while listening to music or watching TV shows, chosen based on their preferences and interests.


Our Story

The story continues...

2023 – A significant agreement

Service agreement between The Anchorage and the Integrated University Health and Social Service Center of Central South of the Island of Montreal concerning the purchase of spots for therapy services for residents on the island of Montreal presenting a substance use disorder for a duration of three years.

2020 – Bilingualism

The Anchorage becomes a bilingual program, offering and accepting residents undergoing opioid agonist treatment. 

2020 – The Gouvernail and The Anchorage are on different levels

2019 – The Salvation Army begins its work in Montreal

2014 - In July, the Delta social reintegration program was discontinued. In July, The Havre service became an integral part of The Gouvernail

2013 – Creation of The Phare

Community support service.

2011 – Creation of The Havre

Community support service.

2005 – Creation of The Delta

The Delta is established as a separate program from The Anchorage for the reintegration of men aged 18 and over, abstinent alcoholics/addicts, who have successfully completed an internal therapy program.

2000 – Creation of The Gouvernail

Implementation of a housing service as an alternative to rooming houses for men with low incomes, which will later be called The Gouvernail.

1999 – Shelter transformed

The Booth Center transitions from a temporary refuge for homeless men to a supervised housing resource.

1997 – Integration of The Anchorage into the Booth Center

1990 – Compassionate Rehabilitation

Restructuring of the Booth Center to address the consequences of the deinstitutionalization of people with mental health issues.

1970 – Creation of a new program

Establishment of a program and a housing service for older men with low incomes.

1958 – Construction of the current building at the corner of Guy and Saint-Antoine streets

1949 – Creation of an addiction program (The Anchorage)

1897 - "The Lighthouse Food And Shelter Depot"

Establishment of “The Lighthouse Food And Shelter Depot” on de la Commune Street. This shelter will later be renamed “Montreal Booth Center.”

1884 – The Salvation Army begins its work in Montreal

1882 – Introduction of the Salvation Army in Canada

1878 – The movement is renamed “Salvation Army”

1865 – William Booth launches the “Christian Mission” in London (England)
